The period

What happens in your body when you have a period?

Hi!

The period (menstruation) happens when the mucous membrane from the uterus is rejected, if the egg from the ovaries have not been fertilised, in other words you are not pregnant. A change occurs in the body’s hormonal balance if the egg is not fertilised; this sends a signal for the period, to start.

The amount of blood for each monthly period is not more than about 150 ml. (5 fl. oz.). The woman’s menstrual cycle lasts about 28 days, so it starts again from then as long as you are not pregnant.
