What does the Bible say about premarital sex?

What does the Bible say about those who have had premarital sex?

Dear, thank you for your question!

This is one of the questions we answer in the article: God's grace is greater than anything else.

The Bible says that no human being can live holy and pure by God's standards. The Bible says that there is no difference between us humans in the eyes of God. All sins and all kinds of sins separate us from God, and therefore we all need to be saved (1). And that is precisely why Jesus came (2).  God's grace is perfect and without limits, and we can never fall so far that He cannot forgive and restore us. When we confess and repent of sin, He forgives and cleanses us completely and perfectly. Sin separates us from God and weighs us down, so God wants us to put it behind us (3). He wants us to live holy as he has made us holy (4).

It is also important to be aware that sin has consequences for our lives, and different sins have different consequences and different long-term effects on our lives. 1 Corinthians 6 tells us to be extra careful about sexual acts outside of marriage, because these are sins we commit with our own bodies (1 Corinthians 6:18), and our bodies are meant to honor God (1 Corinthians 6:20). And if we as children of God consciously choose to live in sin, it will also have serious consequences for our relationship with God. It will hinder fellowship with God and hinder our prayers (5).

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in Him, there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”(6). However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them. (7).

Bible verses from this text:

1: "For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard." Romans 3:23

2: "And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him." 1. John 3:5

3: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." Hebrews 12:1

4: "For the Scriptures say, 'You must be holy because I am holy.' "  1. Peter 1:16

5: "When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims." Isaiah 1:15 / "Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call." Isaiah 59:1 / "In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered"  1. Peter 3:7  / "So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin." 1. John 1:6-7

6: "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1. John 1:5-9 and "My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 7: "However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them." John 6:37
