Masturbating with a friend

Hi, I’m a Christian, but I masturbate with a friend from my class. We’re both mad about girls and want to date a girl later on. My question is, is it wrong to masturbate with a friend (without porn)?

From a boy of sixteen.

Hi,

A lot of people send us questions about whether it is OK to masturbate. Most guys and lots of girls have masturbated, and the Bible doesn’t say anything directly about it. The fact that our sex organs can give us pleasure is a gift from God. It doesn’t say in the Bible that it’s sin to touch your own genitals and get to know your body in this way.

At the same time we have to remember that God created sexuality to be enjoyed in the framework of a lifelong marriage between a man and a woman, who have promised to be faithful to each other. Masturbation can easily become a kind of sex that we just enjoy ourselves and so it can be a distraction from what God meant sex to be. Although it’s natural for youths to explore their bodies and find out how their sex organs work, masturbation can become a habit that has power over us. All the questions we get from worried youths who are addicted to porn (and also often masturbation) show us that it’s easy to go off track and get an unhealthy focus on sex, and this leads to problems.

Sex is meant to be private. God’s idea is that we should only share it with the person we marry and who we will spend the rest of our lives with. Masturbating with someone else is also very intimate, and even though you don’t use porn, we recommend that you agree not to masturbate together any more.

Best wishes
