Incest

Incest is sexual contact between people who are closely related. In most countries sex between parents and children, step-parents and children, uncles/aunts and children, and between siblings is illegal.

It is a punishable offence to have sexual contact with children, stepchildren, foster children, siblings and grandchildren. This includes all forms of sexual contact, from inappropriate touching to sexual intercourse. These laws are created to protect children, and it is always the adult who is punished.

Children and youths who are exposed to incest often have serious psychological and sexual problems. It is important that these children receive the help and treatment they need. If you are aware of a child being sexually abused you must inform the child protection agency or police. The school nurse will be able to help you.
