Wait for Me!

‘Do you think there’s someone out there who hasn’t slept with anyone yet? Do you think there’s anyone out there for me? I really want to be the first one, the only one for the person I’ll marry.’

This – or something similar – is what I sometimes hear from young men and women. The answer is that, yes, there issomeone out there!

Purity is the most valuable gift you can give to your future husband or wife. Just think, someone has waited to get you!

Everyone can give an expensive gift, but only those who know what it is to make a sacrifice can give away something valuable. ‘No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing’ 2 Samuel 24:24. When you find the right person, it is best if you have something valuable to give them, that you haven’t given to anyone else. If you give your sweetheart something you have fought to keep, then you’re giving them a valuable gift.

Living in purity is much more than just controlling our sex drive, it’s also a battle against the influence and pressure from a false message being spread in the world around us. Sexual purity doesn’t seem to be valued these days, and few people are motivated to keep sex for marriage. If we don’t hear about a reward that makes it all worthwhile, we won’t be motivated to take up the fight against the pressure to have sex.

Purity – worth fighting for!

We value purity in all other aspects of life. We like our surroundings to be clean around us, and we like to keep ourselves clean. We shower, we wash ourselves, we wash our clothes and our house. We use hand sanitiser because we know that the most dangerous kind of dirt is invisible and we can get infected with bacteria and viruses which might lead to dangerous diseases. But perhaps we forget the most important type of purity, which is purity of thought: ‘Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it’ Proverbs 4:23.

Jesus came to cleanse us. Anyone who believes in Him is cleansed – John 15:3. However, we still need to wash ourselves often, according to John 13:10. ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness’ 1 John 1:9.

It’s great to have a clean partner. It’s so nice when he or she smells good, has nice hair and has clean, cool clothes. But it’s also great when your partner’s thoughts are clean and when he or she only fantasises about the two of you. It’s super not having to fight viruses and bacteria from the past. It’s great to be able to meet old friends and acquaintances without old passions springing to life again. It’s so beautiful to be the only one for each other. It’s beautiful when two people can share something that no one else has got from them, and say ‘You are so special to me, sweetheart. I waited for you, and I want to give myself to you alone. It was really worth waiting for you! Thanks for waiting for me too!’
