What are your thoughts on asexuality?
What do you think about asexuality?
Hi. We don’t have any specific thoughts about asexuality, but we can mention a few general things. Asexuality is a relatively new word which is not found in the Bible. The word is often used to describe people who do not experience any sex drive, in other words that they do not have any sexual desires and do not want to have any either. This word is not usually used unless the person has experienced this over a number of years. There are periods in everyone’s life when they do not think about sex, or when they are not interested in it.
The human sex drive usually starts during puberty, but there can be a good deal of variation, some people experience a strong sex drive, others have less and still others have none. Some people experience that their sex drive starts when they are in a relationship and they start to become sexually close to someone, while others have very little desire to be sexually intimate with someone. There is a lot of pressure from the media today to focus on sex, and it is almost taboo to talk about waiting until marriage to have sex, or to say that you don’t want to have a sex life, either because you do not have the desire or because you choose not to.
Sometimes illness or injury can lead to a lack of sex drive, but in that case the word asexuality is not used.
