What does the Bible say about getting married?
Hello. I have read a bit in the Bible, and I think it’s a bit difficult to find out what the Bible actually says about getting married. Is getting married the same for us as it was for those in the Bible?

The idea of marriage today is much the same as it was in the Bible's time. While there might not have been specific rules for the wedding ceremony itself back then, the concept of marriage was very important throughout the Bible. It's clear that any kind of sexual activity outside of marriage (called fornication) was considered unacceptable. In the Bible, God encouraged His people not to follow the behaviors of other cultures when it came to relationships. Marriage, as a way for a man and a woman to live together, was something that was understood and accepted throughout the Bible. When the New Testament talks about the relationship between men and women, it goes back to the creation story in Genesis 1:27 and 2:24 for reference.
In Israel, at the time of Jesus, they also practiced a long engagement period. The engagement was a binding agreement even if the marriage pact itself had not been concluded.
The marriage was entered into with a wedding ceremony and a party. (John 2:1-11, Matt 22:1-14, Matt 25:1)
